The 1881 transcription says "Sainthill I", but IGI's got him as Sainthill John (as the father at Sainthill Arthur's baptism). Actually capital I and J were identical in some hands. So there's a possibility the b/cert just said John. Also, there's this one: 1845 Sep LINDSEY Male Marylebone 1 164 "Male" indicates that they hadn't decided the name when registering the birth. (Of course, once you allow for undecided parents, there's also the possibility of parents who pick a name and then change their minds later) Strictly Paddington was in Kensington district, but Marylebone district was adjacent Looks like an interesting family. I'm sure you'll find the Sainthills are all related, but maybe only as 2nd or 3rd cousins, you might have to go back to the first to make the link |

Ruth - thank you for taking the trouble to look!. Sainthill A is/was my grandfather, and Sainthill W was my uncle, eldest son of Sainthill A. The Islington chap is unbelievably, like the Bradninch Sainthill Lindsey, not proven to be one of mine, alas.. That leaves one- and who knows it might be the link - where/how did you find him? These are all the Sainthill Lindsey births in London from Mar 1845 to Dec 1903 on FreeBMD. I guess you've investigated the first one but maybe his birth wasn't registered for a few years, it's not unheard of... I'm looking for the birth of my Sainthill Lindsey. He is on the 1881 aged 35, (born Paddington) with his wife and son (also Sainthill) He is also on the 1901. I have his marriage Cert. I cannot find his birth. Have checked 1837 online from 1840 -1852, freebmd, and even Ancestry. I found two immediate candidates in 1st qtr 1847, one of them was born in Tiverton and as yet has no proved connection though his 'owner' and I feel there must be - somewhere. The other was born in Islington, and is recorded as Senthill, and I have found records of him and his family- but he is not mine! So where is my Sainthill? Any other leads to follow would be appreciated. Has anyone got a CD of the 1851 census that they could do a look up for me, please? Rosi Colchester, ESS |
