Just to supplement David's excellent reply, the GRO reference also needs to include the paritular index - Birth Death or Marriage. Graham |

Alison, The GRO Ref comprises year, quarter, registration district, volume and page no. The quarters are March (Jan, Feb, Mar); June (Apr, May, Jun); etc. You can either find the references by going to the Family Records Centre in London, or by using www(.)1837online(.)com. This is a pay as you view site. £6 by credit card allows you to search on names and view 55 pages of index entries. There is a downside to the site in that you might have to view several pages before finding the entry you want. It's a very good web site!! David |

What is the GRO reference and where do you find it? Is it the volume and page number or something else? Alison |
