Many thanks everybody. I was aware that there were no Certs. as such, pre-registration - sorry - brain not in gear - maybe dryred has got a lot to answer for. So, presumably when/if I find a parish record re one of 'my' people, the best thing to do is to find the local to the event Record Office, and see if they can let me have a photocopy of the original parish record? Or can I ask a local to me Record Office to get a copy for me from their counterparts elsewhere? Rosi Colchester, ESS |

There were no certs pre 1837 but there were marriage licences, couples did this for variuos reasons sometimes becuse they didnt want to wait for the banns to be read. Ive been trying to find where these records are kept as they have info not available on the parish records but no-one on this site seems to know and when I look in genealogy books and mags they just say they exist not where they are kept! |

Where do I apply to get pre 1837 Certs? Am flushed with success(and dryred?) after ordering via 1837 online - but there are others I would like that don't have the GRO ref. mainly because they are far too early. So - how do I do that - please? Rosi |
