I have discovered a number of ancestors through researches in the 1881 and 1901 Censuses FreeBMD etc. What is the best way to follow up these names and find out about their children and grand children? Is it a case of just trawling through the BMD? Barbara

You may have done this already but it is worth asking any living relatives if they have any old papers. You would be amazed what people don't know they have stuffed away in battered old cases in lofts etc. Through this route I have found not many bmd certs but lots of funeral cards, merchant navy records, school reports, wills scribbled on bits of paper, share certs, letters etc. All which contain a wealth of info. 1 of my grt grandfathers had even written down all his brothers and sisters details, another his childrens! So its worth asking.
