I have been looking for a marriage on this site but when I typed the name of the person in to see who they married it came up with a page of people that married that day, the question I would like to ask is how do I know which one they married is there a way of telling? from Sue

The names that came up are just the ones from that page - not the whole day. Unfortunately there is no way to tell who it was that they married. It could be any one of them... sorry.

Susan Andrea is correct, but if you have the name of the partner from a census and it happens to be a name that is uncommon on the list then you can 'guess' which is the partner. The only sure way is to send for the certificate. Vera Manchester, LAN

Susan, Can you find the Groom on any of the census records? The 1901 gives you the whole household (you have to pay of course) and so does the 1881 (free). If you know what year they got married (which I assume you do if you were searching the FreeBMD for it), and you can find a census after that date, then the family will show up and your bride will be listed as the Wife. It will obviously only give her surname as her married name, but you will then have the first name to check with the FreeBMD page. Good idea Vera!

Sometimes i've discovered that the person who they married is the next but one to them. If you click on the page number it brings up the people who married that particular time. This is one of mine: Ansley Joseph Henry Nottingham 7b 495 HOPEWELL Frederick Nottingham 7b 495 Knowles Mary Ann Nottingham 7b 495 THORPE Elizabeth Nottingham 7b 495 I tried Joseph and Elizabeth but got nothing but then discovered it was Joseph and Mary Ann who married. I, like the others have sugested, use the census' to confirm them if its possible. Jessica

Don't they get listed on freebmd in alphabetical order of surname?
