how do i link one person in my tree to another in

i have a louisa kemp way back on my mums dad side of the family and a louisa kemp that was married to someone on my mums mums family. they are from the same area and around the same date and am wondering how i make these to people on my tree link together. at the momeent i have 2 entries for the same person and just wondered if it is possible. any suggestions? thanks sam |

If it is the same person and that is what you are trying to do - so that you just have her entered once, then I am afraid you are going to have to delete one of them and then re-input all the other info on the remaining one. If it is the same one, then somehow or other, you must be able to include all the relative partners, children etc so that she then becomes part of both sides of the family. She will probably end up with a "branch" symbol on her name and by clicking this, it will take you to her different parts of the family, so one for your Mum's Mum side and one for Mum's Dad side, or whatever it was. Hope this helps and makes sense. I am sure someone will put it into better English for you though! |

One piece of advice, just be careful that you have checked and double checked. I had a similar situation with my tree but in the end I found out the 2 people in the tree were second cousins. It was much more common in the past for families to take names of parents and grandparents for their children and common to find 2 decendants of about the same age with the same name. The best way to check is a combination of census (if it is that far back) or else BMD records. Hope this helps! |
