Thank you very much (again!)Debbie. I will give Genuki a try and see what comes of it. If no joy, will try Devon FHS as you advised. Robin you are a star - at least I now know a record exists and just a question of deciphering page number! But tell me, where did you get the information from - was it 1837 online? Many thanks to you both - I feel a lot happier now!! |

there's a marriage at 1859 Jul-Sep Humphrey Eli Tiverton 5b * From the 1881 it looks like they were in Uffculme at the time, and that was in Tiverton registration district. Can't decide the page number though. Could be just 75, allowing for the crossbars on the 5s being loose, or there could be part of another number, which mostly hasn't come out. Ouch! Had some bad ones, but not had one before where I couldn't decide at all |

Thank you very much Tracy but I did manage to obtain the info on 1881 census and have been on 1837 online earlier today but had no joy. Will just have to keep trying! |

Helen, I found Eli on the 1881 Census complete with wife and children. Can forward the information, if you haven't got it already. Have you tried checking the www(.)1837Online(.)co(.)uk website for possible matches? |

I have found my gt gt Grandfather (Eli Humphrey) who was married to Charlotte and was born around 1837 in Churchingford, Devon. However, I cannot find a birth, marriage or death record for him! I may have a possible lead as to who his parents were (via the 1851 census)but cannot verify it as the marriage certificate would have his fathers' name and occupation on it. Any suggestions as to where to go from here would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes Helen, Maidenhead |
