can't believe there would still have been a coach route then. The coach trip from Glasgow to London was never less than several days of bone-shaking misery, nights in grotty inns etc, not cheap either, whereas the train service by 1900 wasn't that much worse than it is now, and in some ways better Presumably coachmen were still employed to drive the private carriages of people rich enough to have them Sorry this doesn't help. Personally I'd go looking for the relatives, maybe one of the couple had an auntie with a big house in Cheshire who offered to do the reception. Having a wedding miles away from any family at all would be odd |

Does anyone know how I can find out a coach route between Glasgow and London at the end of the 19th century. My ancestor Andrew Hosie was a Coachman b in Scotland, he married in Altrincham to Mary Ann Callaway who was from Upton cum Chalvey Bucks(now Slough)They lived in Scotland In the 1901 census and their daughter married in Bucks.I cant understand why they married in Altrincham and cant find where they were in 1881 as there are no matches on either census. If cheshire was on the coach route this may explain why married there because I know they were both resident with parents at the time of the wedding.I am also trying to find when he died and where he is buried |
