I do know that a lot of Welsh moved to the Midlands during and after the Industrial Revolution. Could you try Censuses of Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire for areas like Dudley, Wolverhampton and Birmingham. At least he was a Symonds and not a Jones! Jim

Hi David, My Grt GRt Grandfather name was Thomas Symonds. His sons name was Henry Thomas Symonds who was born in 1868 so Thomas could of left Wales some time before that. Thomas was a Blacksmith but I have been told that he could have left Wales because of no work. I have quite a mystery concerning Thomas,s son to solve so I am going through his father at the moment.
