Can anyone tell me if you can view Electoral Rolls online from the library in the area concerned-would save some legwork? Thanks a lot. Colette |

Hi There You can do electoral roll searches through 192<.>com. I think you get a few free for registering, and then its a charge for regular searches. It may be worth a look. (only for the current one though) Regards Maxine |

Just out of interest, if I was to start looking at the E Rolls, can anyone please tell me when they first started. I would not want to go looking if the period I want is before they came into use. Any ideas please. Steve |

Thankyou everyone for all your help. as I have e-mailed to William I am trying to trace a friend who moved to Bexhill-on-Sea about two years ago. I can't for the life of me remember any of her address, and BT.com wasn't any help for her phone number, as I remembered she's ex-directory! 192-same reason, also have to have 1st line of address. My dear, darling (wring his neck!) 24 year old son, lost our address book when we were away recently. I then thought about the tips board as a long shot-and you've all come up trumps with answers. I've e-mailed William personally, and have made note of the 192 website address and just hope James doesn't lose our new address book while we're in France for the next 5 days! Sorry for not replying earlier, just haven't had the time to log on. Thanks again. Colette |

When did electoral rolls begin? What exactly do they tell you apart from addresses? George |

Bingo!!! Thankyou so very much William. My friend phoned me tonight. I have e-mailed you personally, but thought the others might like to know the outcome. Dorothy was ecstatic-we both were. I wrote her a letter from France, where we have been for the last few days, and she received it today. Thanks to everyone else for their tips as well-much appreciated. Colette |

Hi, I tried 192 last week, it is good but it still has my mother in law down as living at an address she moved out of over 2yrs ago and on my address it still has my late husband!! So it's not completely accurate. Laurie |

There are a few electoral rolls pre 1900 but in the main they are every year since then, not sure about war years. They give everyone who was entitled to vote at each address same as now. |

The Electoral rolls still took place during the war years. ERs tend to be an unused part of genealogy, but great if you are tracking a family member's history. If a man was away fighting when the ER took place, it was recorded that they were 'absent' and in some instances details the force and battalion they were serving in. Can provide some very interesting info. |

I have the 2000 electoral roll, it has my 2 nans and 2 addresses I died 1995 and the other died 1997. It had my old address I moved in 1996. So they are defitnetly not accurate. Debbie |
