I went to see a medium a few months ago, when I first started doing my family tree. He came up with the name George, who was my grandad, then told me that my grandad had been a twin, and the other twin was a boy. Earlier the same night I had found my grandads birth on freebmd, and on the same page was his twin, John. I had printed the page out and shown it to my mum before we went out. Maggy, West Yorkshire |

Hi there After my maternal grandmother died, her daughter in law said she often felt her around her house. My aunt, went to a spiritual church, for the first time - and a message came through from gran. It's nice to know she is still around. Does anyone know of a good mediumin the SW London area? Liz |

William That must have been an awful experience for you, particularly as you had a 'feeling' that this would happen. You must have felt so hopeless knowing that there was nothing you could do about it. Has this happened to you before, or since? Janet Northamptonshire |

At the risk of being cynical....I think this whole medium/psychic/spiritualist thing is - dare I say - a load of old baloney (and all the exploitative TV programmes that go with it). Coincidences are great fun - but that's exactly what they are. The world would be a very strange place without coincidental happenings. Also if people start to pay "mediums" and the like for information, some very nasty and unscrupulous people might start to take advantage...give me diligent research over Madame Arcatis every day.... |

Ooooooh Peter !!!! Seriously though I can understand your reservations, and I would agree that it could become a dangerous obsession and a tool for manipulation in the wrong hands - but for that matter so can many other things that we don't question so readily. I think the key is to keep an open mind, and as you quite rightly say watch out for people who charge(although the lady I saw did readings to raise money for the RSPCA!) From a personal perspective I just find it a really interesting subject, and as a Christian it seems like quite a normal expectation that our loved ones would want to let us know they love us and are OK. At the end of the day if it gives people peace of mind and comfort can it be so bad? Regards Maxine PS Have you got the number for Madame Arcatis?<BG> |

Hi everyone. I think the key to knowing if a medium is genuine is not to give them any info., let them tell you! I went to see a medium when my husband died. She insisted on holding something personal to me - I gave her my watch. I DID NOT tell her anything (I especially made sure not to). At the end of our session she said it had been particularly hard because I had been unable to assist her, and that I should perhaps do a little research and go back! She had asked me who I was trying to reach - I told her no one in particular but that I lost a few relatives in recent years. Little did she know she had hit on many factors relating to my late mother (recently passed on)and sister. She described a ring - a ring that I had looked at just before leaving home for my appointment, a ring that I had not looked at for some years - bought for me by my late husband. I denied all knowledge of the ring she described because I did not want any facts mixed with fiction. Most amazing of all was the fact that she demonstrated a particular movement which was a habit of my late husband - and no-one could have told her of it. Whilst I went hot and cold I DID NOT reveal that she was "seeing" my late husband (again recently passed over). There were many times that I wanted to pay the same medium a visit - I should have because as I've already said she had definitely made contact! I never did and to this day (12 years on) wonder if I should have. To all of you I would say remember it is so easy to get carried away and tell the medium what you want to hear! Regards Joan |

I would love to go see a medium, but my dad is always sending me messages - he never said he loved me when he was alive but now he has passed he is making up for it. Those of you who have seen my messages on the members board will know about some of them - She |

I was stuck with my family tree and when I visited a medium, she mentioned that she had my Grandmother there, but I did not know her. Which was true because she had died 10 years before I was born, she told me that I had been looking for the family bible (which was true). But I would not find it, because it had been destroyed. But if I looked at the back of the graveyard where she was buried I would find something for my family tree. So set off to Oxford from Epsom to investigate. To cut a long story short, low and behold behind alot of ivy and moss at the back of the graveyard. I found My fathers grandparents. |
