Jeannie A Band Miller is a saw mill worker who operated machinery that saws logs into planks. A Sawyer is a wood shed worker involved in sawing wood. So put the 2 together and you have a man who works in a saw mill using machinery called a band saw to saw wood. I would expect him to be fairly skilled at this work and quite capable of keeping a family of 8. As an example - have you seen 'Little House on the Prairie'? Charles Ingels worked in the wood shop and he did quite well!! Vera Manchester LAN |

Thanks for the info. Now I look at the certificate again, I think it does say 'band sawyer'. But was that a full time occupation providing enough income for a family of 8? Jeannie |

I have just received some certificate and my Great Great grandfather's occupation was a 'Bond Sawyer'. I've looked in the dictionary without success. Does anyone know what this is or was? Jeannie |
