I asked for look ups on the 1891 census for Starkey & page. I was given WILLIAM STARKEY, ELLEN STARKEY, WILLIAM STARKEY, RUTH E PAGE, EMMA PAGE, HANNAH STARKEY & FREDERICK STARKEY all living at 38 victoria gardens, Allerton Bywater. I then asked to look up james page as he was one of the siblings missing. I received this info: JAMES PAGE, ELIZABETH PAGE, ELLEN PAGE, ELIZABETH PAGE, SARAH PAGE, RUTH E PAGE. all living at 17 st johns st, Normanton. Ellen and Ruth e page are the same 2 people as in the other family. As for sarah page she had married in 1890 and is also mentioned with her husband. It has really got me confused. |

Did you look for the James's on the same census? How can Ellen Page and Ellen Starkey be the same person, if this is the case? Are the ages etc all the same? Don't forget that people had a habit of giving the kids the same names as themselves - just to make it more confusing for us several hundred years later when we try to find them all!! Are you sure they are the same family? |

Hi Jessica I would agree with Andrea, it may well turn out that they are cousins or some form of relative, not necessarily the same people,(unless they ran from one house to the other for a laugh like we used to do on the school photos!) Regards Maxine |

My father was a census enumerator 3 times. When he collected the forms in, there would always be a number where people had misunderstood the instructions or written stuff that wasn't consistent. Sometimes things could be sorted out, not always. I think you have to assume that the Normanton record was some kind of a cock-up, you'll never know how exactly, and ignore it. |
