Made the same mistake when I started and was helped out by loads of helpful people on this site. I'm being ultra careful now - for example just discovered one ancestor was married twice. I know names of second wife and of children of first wife but don't know name of first wife. Am not adding any of them to my tree until I've found details of first wife as I don't want to be allocating children to the wrong mother again! Janet |

Christine. Did exactly the same as you, tried every which way to delete, followed every instruction including the one about deleting in the reverese order to the way you entered them . No dice and had to get the help line to do it in the end. Only other way appeared to be to delete the whole tree and start again. Best of luck,(it never happened when I used a pencil and a roll of wallpaper). |

Hi everyone. Many thanks for your advice and comments, feel a bit of a twit, but still I'm still learning. I've taken on board what everyone has said and it seems that there is no alternative but to remove the complete tree. I'm glad I've only got 30 to remove at the moment. Still I will NOT be making the same mistake again, I will check and double check each entry as I do it. Again thanks to you all for your help, have a good weekend. Chris |

It's not a flaw. If you deleted someone who had others 'attached' it would just leave the others floating around with nobody to belong to. |

Well what a fiasco! I am so glad I am not in the possition of the rest of you! Surely then this is a flaw in the programme and needs to be amended-if possible. Sharon |

Hi Sharon You can do that as long as there is no one attached to them i.e. they are not in the middle of a tree so to speak. If they are at the top of the tree, you can delete them no problem - say a great great grandfather if that is as far back as you have gone, but if you have hung other children off him, they would have to be deleted first. Similarly if it was your tree and you wanted to delete one of your children -possibly the extreme other end of the tree, you could just delete them , unless they have a partner and /or children etc.. Does that make sense - or am I rambling on like an idiot again! Regards Maxine |

I thought you just went to 'Your Tree' then the person you want to delete and click their name. once you have done that you have an option to delete at the top along with a couple of other options. sharon |

You're quite right Heather. I once had to delete over 100 people to put an error right. I wrote it all down as I took them off . It took me about 2 hours , but was worth it ion the end. regards maxine |

I have inadvertently added my Great Grandfather in twice, but I'm having a job in removing one of them as they both have spouses and children attached. What did I do wrong? Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks in anticipation of a solution Christine (Chris) Bailey |
