Can anyone advise me how I go about searching for will's. My lot come from Durham, are they held there or do they go somewhere else after probate? Thanks Kim |

A number of archives hold an index of Wills. Its indexed by year of death and in alphabetical order. Try your local records office George |

Kim if you know the full name date of death and address, you can apply to Postal Searches and Copies Department Probate Registry Castle Chambers Clifford Street York YO1 9RG telephone 01904 666770 fax 01904 666776 the cost is £5 per document ie £10 for both copy Will and copy Probate and they are usually fairly quick sometimes however, Wills are not always probated, which will make it almost impossible to trace. I did post a message some weeks ago where i was attending to a Will (this is what i do for a living) that is not going to probate, this Will will therefore be lost to future generations forever in our archives, my advice was once a rellie had passed away (after suitable time lapse) to ask for copy of Will especially if not being probated or it will be gone. hevi please let me know if you require any more info |
