Hi Marian, I have not found an Offspring or Ofspring. Do yo think that it could be born Of Spring as in In Spring? There is a place in Middlesex called Spring Grove which may fit. On GENUKI it says "SPRING GROVE, a hamlet in the parish of Isleworth, hundred of Gore, county Middlesex, 11 miles S.W. of St. Paul's, London. It is situated near Hounslow Heath, and has a station on the loop line of the London and South Western railway." You can find this at: tp://homepages.goldsmiths.ac.uk/genuki/MDX/Isleworth/ There is also a link to a map there. Hope this is of some help Alison

Alison, I have the placename on both a census & on IGI, so I don't think it would have been 'Of Spring'? Clare, I did find an 'Ospringe' but it was in Kent, & this is supposed to be in Middlesex Amanda, this person was born about 1805. Thank you all for your replies

Montmorency Report 2 Aug 2003 21:48

[from Marian above] I have the placename both on a census & on IGI just to say IGI "records" are sometimes faked up from census data, so they aren't independent evidence. Seems like this could be one of them. Danger signs are -- not in a batch from the same church -- years without actual dates -- words like "Of" and "About"

Thank you Robin, that probably explains it. Barking up the wrong tree again then. Marian
