Hi Crista, I want to THANK YOU so much for helping me out, you have definely shown me a new light to Alfred's father. I hope to find Alfred on the Census 1861 or his birth reference, to obtain his certificate. I did not realise that many had their middle name or nickname registered, instead of their forename. I guess, if they made it too easy for us lot (finding our ancestors, etc) we'd lose out on all the frustration and fun!!! I really appreciate your help.......THANKS. Hi George, THANK YOU so much for looking up ROBERT COVELL for me, I have my fingers crossed that Crista maybe right and Robert is really my G-G-G-Grandfather after all. I have jotted down the details that you sent in for me. I will let you know, if I do finally find out who Alfred's father is. Thank you too, for your time and interest on helping me out and wish you the best on your own researching. |

Dawn, People didn't always put their birth name on the census. Sometimes they were known as their middle name or a nickname. I wondered if that might be the case with James. It's all a big guess really. Goog luck, Crista |

Hi Crista, Your quiery about James really being a Robert, has well and truely stumpted me!! Has it been known for a James to be called Robert too?? It certainly would solve the mystery, on why I cannot find him. This piece of information came from a member of my Covell family but obviously looks like it needs looking into abit more deeper. I am going to try and find his son (ALFRED COVELL, born 1851 in North Walsham, Norfolk) birth entry, so I can obtain his certificate. The only snag is..........I cannot seem to find that either?!?! That's why I was hoping for abit of 'pot luck' and some had a sharper eye than me. Crista, MANY THANKS for your time and interest on trying to help me (I have jotted down these suspected brothers names and hopefully I'll soon find that they do belong to my Covell jig-saw puzzle - Thanks). I've just had a thourght, maybe if I tried looking on the Census 1861 for Alfred Covell, it should reveal his parents and siblings?? This 'brickwall' has to come down sometime, it's just kicking it hard enough!!! I will let you know, if I manage to find my missing G-G-G-Grandfather.......and wish you the best of luck with your own researching. Kindest Regards, Dawn. |

Dawn, Looking at Covells born around 1820 +/- 10 years there are Edmund b. 1816, Robert b. 1819 and Soloman b. 1822 and they are all born in Felmingham. Assuming they are all brothers, could it be that James was also know as Robert? James' mum would be hard pushed to produce another baby for 1820. Crista |

Is there anyone who has a sharper eye than mine?? I just cannot trace my G-G-G-Grandfather, JAMES COVELL, born 1820, in either Felmongham or North Walsham, Norfolk. I have tracked down one brother of his (Edmund Covell, born 1816, in Felmongham, Norfolk) and his own family with no problems. James was definely around somewhere because his son (my G-G-Granfather), ALFRED COVELL, was born 1851 in North Walsham, Norfolk. James is untraceable on the Census 1851 and the 1881. I would dearly like to find James, parents, wife and the rest of his children, etc. I will be hugely grateful on any look up's or idea's........MANY THANKS. |
