Hi Janet Just a thought - but could Louisa have been her middle name, although the name she was known by? This has happened all the time in my family Maxine

There are quite a few variants on the name but they are all very similar and would be obvious if doing a visual search. If searching a computerised index then I would be inclined to search on something like "LO*" or even "L*" so that it picks any variant. Martin

Lots of Louisa's in my tree, no reason to think its not a name in its own right.

I know of someone with the name Louisa but it isn't short for anything. It is just her full first name. It is unusual and sometimes confused with Louise, but I don't think it is short for anything.
