I have found something similar, Ann. On a death certificate (for Scotland) it has the deceased recorded as illegitimate and the father's name as "reputed father". I cannot find a birth record for the deceased or his mum! |

Hi Ann I have had a birth certificate where the father's name and surname was just "----" I got in touch with the Register Office and they told me it was because the child was illegitimate (spelling?? - can never get that right!) Hope this helps. |
