Is anyone in a position to help me ? I've had my G/Grandfather's birth cert for a month now but still can find out no further info on his parents. I have asked previously on GC with no response, also tried all the usual sites wwith no luck. I have now joined the 1837 site but still have progressed no further. I'm not asking for a look up, just someone to point me in the right direction or otherwise advise me. My G/Grandfather - Tom Blackburn born 30 March 1864 in Killamarsh. Birth registered in Eckington 30 April 1864. Tom's parents: John Blackburn & Mary Rennerd. I have nothing further to go on, just their names taken from Tom's birth cert. Thanks - Terry

I have found your family on the 1881 census CD set. They are at Bedford Street Morley Name Age Birthplace John 51 Ratlef,Yorkshire Mary 49 Hemsley,Yorkshure William 19 Wales Tom 17 Kilmartin Sarah 14 Hemsworth Ann 8 Dodworth Francis 6 Dodworth The spellings are as they have been transcribed onto the CD's which is probablt why you cannot find him on family search. Hope this helps Stephen If you need anymore info let me know.

Presumably by 1891 Tom,William and Sarah had all left home. Tom married by then ? Stephen

Many thanks Stephen & Debbie for your input. Debbie - re your first msge. That is the same info I have on Tom's birth. Stephen - re your info. I also have the same info given to me about a month back. The problem is that Tom's birthplace is given as Kilmartin, which is a place somewhere in Scotland, whilst my Tom was born in Killamarsh, Derbys. His parents names are so common, how do I know that this is the right family ? Debbie - re your 2nd msge. In 1891 Tom has tied the knot with Ann Barratt and are lodging with Ann's Mum & Dad in Ashby, Lincs. The saga continues - watch this space !!!!

I live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and I think the 1881 is your family. All the places the children were born are within a few miles of each other. Yes,there's even a place called Wales round here! All the places were mining villages so it fits in with the occupation. I would think Kilmartin is just another Census error and should be Killamarsh.

Hi Helen Thanks for that info. It did seem a bit unusual to see a family in the 1800's moving house from Derbys to Yorks, Scotland, Wales & back to Yorks. Never realised there was another "Wales" Terry

Hi Debbie I also pulled the plug last night. Not sure what the problem was, but I was having terrible trouble re-entering GC. Might have just been pure volume of people using the site. I'm going to go with you and Helen's gut feeling and say that this is my John & Mary. Cheers for now. Terry

Hi Guys Just thought you would like to know that I have just searched again on LDS and found good old Mary. I narrowed the search down by using her age that you gave me. Found her in Helmsley Yorks in 1832. Her surname was Rennard whilst I have her on my G/Grandfathers birth cert as Rennerd. It just has to be the same Mary, so a BIG thanks to all of you for your kind help and advice. Terry
