I received an e-mail today with news of the launch of a new website starting from tomorrow. I quote from the e-mail: "The National Archivist is delighted to provide online access to a unique collection of archives from the United Kingdom. Our database contains digital images of original registers, entry books and indexes, reproduced under licence from The National Archives, London England and other organisations. You can search the database for FREE, view images from as little as 20 UK pence (approx 32 cents) and save and print your copy". Archives immediately available: Estate Duty Office Indexes to Death Duty Registers 1796 to 1903 Register of Births, Marriages and Deaths At Sea 1854 to 1890 Index to Divorce and Matrimonial Causes 1858 to 1903. Coming Soon: Registers of Names of Passport Applications 1851 to 1903 Registry of Emigration Shipping 1847 to 1855 Visit : http://www(.)nationalarchivist(.)com Hope this is useful to someone, Regards Andy. |

Andy, Very many thanks. I found the death of my Great Aunt's husband. I had been searching for months! It's a good site which will get even better. The only problem I have found is with the DjVu. I downloaded the (supposedly) up to date version. I can view the images OK but if I try to print them it crashes the PC! Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Jill Oswestry Shropshire |

Thank you, Andrew. I took a peek this evening, looks quite useful, I may have found a birth at sea I couldn't find elsewhere! Patsy |
