The BIRTH name would have been registered, with the BIRTH mother's details. The Adopted Children's Register at the Family Records Centre, London, lists the ADOPTED name, NOT the birth name. See also an adoption-related post on this board from Helen Scullion (?) of 2/3 days ago, especially as regards the BAAF.

Does anyone know how you can go about tracing an adopted person from the 50's . Would there birth have been registered under the natural mothers name or the adopted mothers. The natural mother is no longer alive now. Can anyone offer any info. Many Thanks Catherine
