Jacqueline, There's this on FreeBMD: Births Sep 1877 McCARROLL James Portsea I. 2b 428 What was his profession? Portsmouth was known for its shipbuilding as was Glasgow. Workers tended to move around a bit. Crista |

thanks crista but have tried scottish census . there is no records of him . he must have moved here to scotland .thought i might have found him om 1901 census he was married then with a child but couldnt find any of them on it . |

Hi Jaqueline, Can't find any James McCarroll's (used various spellings) around 1877 but there are a couple either side. I have listed below the details that came up from the search. Jacqueline, You need to get someone with access to the Scottish censuses to do a lookup for you. Chances are he was born in Scotland and the censuses you mention you checked are for England and Wales only. Crista |

thanks crista, james mccarroll born 1877 where ? married in gorbals glasgow 1896 . died 3/1/1944 in glasgow .have noticed that mccarroll was spelt with only one L on marriage certificate, but then changed to double L on birth of his children ? |

i am really struggling to find birthplace of greatgrandad have year of birth and death .marriage cert, but no record of birthplace.tried everything no records on census tried lds , ancestry rootsweb can anyone advise me thankyou |
