I have been told that Thomas Robert Rochfort is the second son of Valentine Rochford. Thomas married Jane Renwick 8 dec 1849 Logierait, Scotland. I can't connect the two. Any ideas.

The spelling difference could be down to the emunerator or vicar who recorded the information. As a lot of people were illiterate they did not know how to spell their names and we are therefore reliant on their accents and pronunciation. I have an ancestor who is recorded as Gate, Kates and Rates on various parish, marriage and birth certificates. Alison
