Think I have found (with many thanks to Mary)date of gg grandparents marriage, found both parteners on 1837,for Oct quarter 1847 only thing is one ref is xx143 and other one is xx145.So not really sure what to do phoned Liverpool RO for advice, very abrupt woman answered, wouldnt listen, asked her nicely if anyone else I could speak too,no she said ring this number so tried the number only to find its one of those awful automated lines press this no for this blah blah eventually was put in queue and told ten others before me.Had to hang up in the end.Only wanted to know if both ref nos need to match,so now doing what I should of done in first place, asking GC members, any one know? .Sorry for moaning Thanks Kathleen |

Sorry you had a bad experience with the GRO, they've always been really helpful when I have called them. Ok, first question - where did you get this info? If it was freebmd I would advise cross checking it on 1837online. Second thing you could try is putting the first number in the form then put in brackets +/- and the other number. A nice lady at the GRO told me this, it also applies to names e.g. if you think they might have had a middle name put John (+/- Arthur) or whatever. Third thing you could try is calling the record office where the record is actually held. I have varying experiences with these but it might be worth a try. I hope some of that helps!! |
