Nadia Registration of Births Marriages and Deaths didn't begin in England and Wales until 1 July 1837. This means that you won't be able to get a birth certificate. The 1881 Census should show the individual's birth place and you will therefore need to start checking the relevant Parish Registers. It would be worth your while checking whether there is a record of Baptism on the International Genealogical Index (IGI) which can be found at www(.)familysearch(.)org (take out the brackets when putting the web address in your browser). But be careful, the IGI is not complete and a lot of information has been submitted by relatives and can be inaccurate. The IGI is a good finding aid, though. Good luck in your search. David
