Thanks for all the interest. I have now phoned GRO and they are loking into it and will contact me back sometime. I also checked free BMD and I have emailed you Sarah. I am wondering if someone at GRO saw Elizabeth Masters on the page and didn't see Sarah so assumed I was wrong. (I had not noticed Elizabeth before. On their son's birth certificate the parents are Sarah Ingram formerly Masters and John Ingram. I think I might risk it and send for the cert just using one of the names. Maybe as one of you suggested John Ingram and Masters. Can I do that? I still haven't got the computer back, he is working on it this afternoon. Can't do anything until I get it as I prefer to order on line. Ann Glos |

Ann further to Sarah's information, the marriage index has my grandmother Elizabeth CHANDLER and Catherine CHANDLER as possible brides. Catherine FINN was a witness to the marriage...you can see what happened. When I pointed out the error to FreeBMD, they said they are obliged to transcribe the index as it is. Sue |

Ann. I have just checked this marriage on freeBMD. There are 2 entries for Masters. Sarah and Elizabeth. They are both on the same page under John Ingram. Don't know if that helps. Sarah. |

Yvette Unless there is an easier way I looked up both names and the numbers correspond so unless I am doing it wrong --I hope I am right if you know what I mean!!?? Ann,Darlington |

Ann I am new to the 1837, but had a look and didnt see the brides name at all, would it work if you just asked for the grooms name and brides surname? Yvette |

Hi Ann I have had a look and yes you are right. Have you phoned them and asked them to double check? I once recieved a certificate that was the wrong person and they issued a new one so they do get things wrong like the rest of us!! Ann,Darlington |

I have just had a request for a marriage certificate refused by GRO, the reason they give is "brides forename not Sarah" My request was for the marriage of John Ingram to Sarah Masters. The 1837 reference I gave was for the September quarter of 1872 John Ingram and Sarah Masters 5c 867 Wells. Would some kind soul please have a look for me and see if they see what I see. I have double checked the print out of the pages but can't get it on line because my computer is in being repaired and I am writing this on husband's, his isn't set up for 1837 and I don't want to fiddle with it. Very many thanks Ann Glos |
