I have queried thr lack of names after 1853 with PROcat and they have replied quickly advising that names after 1855 have not yet been included on-line but they are working to include names from 1855 to 1872 and will pubicise this when they are ready on their website.Norman

Hi Norman I too have the same problem My William Kirkland was discharged 1859 after being in the Indian Mutiny So he wasnt on there either. But thought the site could help others. I looks as though I need a trip to Kew Which I doubt I can ever get there, So I have come to a stop. I thought if only I could find his exact date of Birth on his Records If ever anyone is going Please would apreciate Joan

Joan - A very interesting site. I have found one gggfather who served 1807-1812 but unable to find another who shows on his son's marriage certificate as a soldier in 1857. The records only seem to go upto about 1853. Are there other WO references that cover a later period than the two numbers quoted? Norman

Joan PS: I just noticed it also mentions - Royal Hospital Chelsea: Soldiers Service Documents - does this mean he was injured and sent to this hospital? Lynne

Debbie Glad you managed to get on the site and hope you found some information. Joan I have now checked my records and it definitately was my GGGrandfather that I found on the site! HURRAY!! The only problem is that there is very little info on him - just the regiment, age on discharge and 1826-1842 (I assume that is the length of time he served). Do you know if I can get any more information on him and if so, how? I only had his marriage cert which said 'full age' so at least I now know what year he was born. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again. Lynne

Debra and Caroline Did you also take out the word 'dot' in each case and replace it with a full stop? I had no difficulty getting onto the site earlier. Lynne

Claire Did you click on Search on the left hand side. Also if you just put the name in and nothing else, there is a lot of interesting things as well, and still come to the WO bit with the rellies names in hopefully. Joan

Didn't find my rellie but it's good to know there is something online. Everything else I've seen seemed to say you had to personally visit Kew for the records.
