Does anyone know if there was a prison in Isfield, East Sussex, if so does anyone know how I would go about finding details of a particlar inmate? Ae records kept on these sorts of things? Thanks Anna |

Hi Anna, There is an interesting website http://thesussexweald(.)org/home(.)htm which has the 1851 census for Isfield, amongst other things. I couldn't find a prison but I only gave it a quick look. Liz STS |

Anna, Don`t know where you are, but I can tell you, Isfield is a ver small place, unlikely to ever had a prison. The nearest is Lewes. Sometimes, years ago, police houses / stations had cells attached for miscreants to spend a short while in whilst reflecting ! Could this be the case for your enquiry. John Ranger |

ooohh, I never considered that, it 1s very possible as it was on the census, so perhaps that just happened to be his unlucky night!! |
