Thank you Eve, John and everyone else for your help. I will look forward to saving myself pounds by going to the library instead of spending it online. |

Richard I have just had an email from Bradford Library with a d/load and it says they have the GRO from 1837 to 1990. I will email it to you so long as it's not too big for my Heath Robinson PC John |

Hi Richard, It's finding somewhere to park near to the library that is the problem. Might have a curry but time may not allow as I then if there is time have got to go to Donnie and on Tuesday off to there record office. Mind that's mainly to prove connections. Still looking for Riley Ferguson. Hopefully Bishops Transcripts will have him. John |

If libraries hold the bmd index it is for the whole of England and Wales as i would have thought it impossible to divide up unless they microfilmed local register office records. George |

Norman - I hope I will be corrected but I believe there are none in Bradford. Does the BMD info in Huddersfield Central Library relate to Huddersfield only or have they got the whole index? (grasping for straws now!) Janet - yes Mumtaz is still going strong. I think an extension to the restaurant was added recently. Their Kalhari Sabzi Mix (sorry about the spelling) is superb! |

Richard Is the Mumtaz Paan House still there in Bradford? My nose was twitching for a good curry when I read your message! Janet |

Hi, Richard I am astonished to think that Bradford Central Library may not hold any BMD records. Have you checked the Bradford Council web site? I use Huddersfield Central Library, which has complete BMD on microfilm or microfiche, as well as an extensive collection of West Yorkshire Parish data on microfiche, and census information for all published censuses for the Kirklees Council area. I believe Leeds Central Library has the same or even more extensive holdings of this kind. I hope you find a convenient source. Best wishes Stan Driver |

Yes thats the one on Canal Road. Annual holidays in Bradford, whatever next! Still you can go to the National Film and Photography museum when you have finished in the Library - its free and only next door. Best thing Bradford has to offer - apart from the curry houses that is. Thanks for your help Richard |

I think it is Canal Road, near the Post Office depot? I live in Wilts and have only been there once. Though all being well will be there and the Library next Monday. Sad or what, my annual hol. instead of France. lol |

Thanks for your reply Jacqueline and John (again!) is that the Record office on Canal Road?. Judith - I tried the familia page and it said under Bradford, Births Marriages and Deaths Records held - None. I just wondered if there is anywhere else near me that would have the BMD indexes apart from the London BMD Office or 1837(.)com - like an LDS office |

Type "familia" into a search engine like Google, and it will give you the web address for a page with links to a libraries index, which lists what family history resources are available at any public library. But ... phone to check before visiting a library, just to be sure. Earlier this year (I think) a lot of BMD fiche were stolen from Bath, Bristol and Gloucester libraries, thousands in total, and the libraries said that they would restrict access to them in future. Hiya Richard - don't know about your place but the LDS Family records Centre in Nottingham is w o n d e r f u l - the people are so friendly and informative and the record base is far reaching. I have found loads of info. from there - more painstaking than the internet, but you will meet like-minded individuals all busying away and will help if they can. More helpful than the local Records Office where they seem to be too busy to help. Give it a go - you have nothing to lose. Jacqui |

Hi As I understand it, Bradford Library doesnt hold any BMD info at all. If I cant find any relevant info on FreeBMD - are my options either to pay to use the 1837 website, or pay to go to the London family records office? What do other people from Bradford do? Is it worth going to an LDS office? |
