Hi Rosemary, Thankyou so much for taking the time to look this up - it is much appreciated. I'm certain it is the correct Nelson & family as his occupation is the same as in 1901 Thanks again Natalie

(sorry if the above appears to be one big block of text, the spaces & returns I added when I typed the message have not appeared when the message was added to the board!)

Hi, I am hoping that someone may be able to find my gg granfather on the 1891 census. I've found him on the 1881 & 1901 entries, and have also found him on the Cumberland 1871 census (after 2 hours of trawling through microfilm and trying to decipher handwriting!). He is Nelson Brown born 1861 in Wigton (though birth place may be listed as Oulton) Cumberland, so at the time of the 1891 census he would have been about 30. I know he was in Cumberland at the time of the 1881 census and but by the time of the 1901 census he was married to 2nd wife and living in Battersea London (so I'm not quite sure where he was living in the interim years) He would have been married at the time of the 1891 census, but I am not sure of the name of his wife (it was his 1st wife). I do however know that there would have been a few children: Rose & Mary both born c. 1888 There would also have possibly been a Sarah, but she may have been born just after the census date. Any help would be much appreciated & any information would be greatly received. (As an aside, are the census returns at the record office in London indexed? The 1871 Cumberland census that I looked at was not) Many thanks Natalie Surrey
