Hiya Well there are a few ways of going about it. Have you got his death certificate - it should give his age at death. If you haven't and you know the date of death then you can look it up on 1837 online and order the certificate from the link to the PRO (if you are in the UK). You can look for the couple on the 1901 census. I had a quick person search and found only one John and Eleanor living in Durham of about the right age (he was born about 1872 in Cockfield and was a coalminer, she was born about 1877 but not in Essex so these are probably not your people). You'd have to pay to view the entry to find out any more. You could also look on freeBMD to see whether there are any births registered there, but it is not complete. Assuming he was born about 1872 he should show up on the 1881 census that is provided free by the LDS (link on the left) I had a quick squint there too and there are a number of them. Does any of this help? Hope so Best wishes A |

My great grandfather was called John Richardson. He died in 1947 at Seaham in Co. Durham. He married Eleanor Kirby from Essex in 1898. I have other bits about the family but do not know where to find John's birthdate. Can anyone suggest a solution please? |
