I have a relative who was in the RN and was at the Coastguard Station, Ballycastle, CoMayo at some stage. The place is now the Stella Maris Hotel but I wondered if there would be any way of finding out more. Do the RN or Coastguard keep records of such tings that can be internet accessed? Thanks, -Kat |

Coastguards, Lighthouse-keepers etc would have been governed by Trinity House who I believe do have their own web-site - I would try them first, although I have read that a lot of the pre-war service records of personnel were lost during the London blitz - worth a try thought! All the best. Jacqui |

Send an SAE with £5.00 for search of 70,000 records to Mrs E R Stage, 150 Fulwell Park Avenue, Twickenham, Middx TW2 5HB. Good luck. Maz. XX |

Its in a booklet I have of specialist indexes under, 'Occupations' then 'Coastguards'. It says '70,000= refs to coastguard and their families. Fee £5 for initial search of each individual Christian name and surname. Send as much information as possible on each coastguard. SAE essential.' Then it just gives the name and address. I suppose you could just call it The Coastguard Index? Maz. XX |

Thanks! Trouble is I don't know if he was actually a coastguard...here's the thing: In Ireland at that time the Royal Navy were in charge of all the coast guard stations...it was from these that hey protected the coastline from the threat of invasion etc etc. As he was a Gunner, Corporal, Master-At-Arms when I have him listed I don't know if he would appear in their records. I suppose it is worth a try though! Thanks again! -Kat |
