Could somebody please help me. I am trying to obtain copy birth certificates for members of my family born Pocklington and Huggate. These areas do not appear in the yorkshirebmd, does anybody know how I can get hold of them, could it be that they are in the Goole area? Any help greatly appreciated Thanks Liz |

Type in "registration districts" in a google search, this site should tell you where the records are now lodged. Ros |

Hi thanks to you both for your help. i took your advice and looked on google but it appears the pocklington office is now closed and records are held in goole i think it said Beverley. Does anybody know how you can apply for certificates without going in person as i am unable to find anywhere on the internet. thanks liz |

Elizabeth If you live in the UK you can get certs online, usually within a few days, from: www(.)col(.)statistics(.)gov(.)uk - but it is necessary to have the GRO ref numbers - which you can usually find bu checking the indexes on 1837Online. Certs cost £7.00 each - and it is possible to put in extra checking parameters, if it is not the correct one they don't send it and you are charged only a search fee of £3. Hope this helps. Rosi |

Elizabeth You can also obtain certificates from the appropriate register offices by post, enclose an SAE. Also £7 and you don't use the GRO index, the address will all be found on www(.)genuki(.)co(.)uk remove the brackets Margaret |

Elizabeth As an East Yorkshire lass myself I can tell you that Goole and Beverley are two separate places about 30 odd miles from each other! I think the most likely places where the records for Pocklington and Huggate are held would be Beverley in East yorkshire or York in North Yorkshire. Goole is an outside chance but I know for sure that the records for Goole and surrounding areas are held at Doncaster. Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need to know more about the area. Regards Jeanette |
