Hi Katrina I'd be very grateful if you could look up my great great grandmother Christy Ann, or Christina, Grieve. She was 65 in the 1881 census as Christy Ann, and 75 in the 1891 census as Christina. That makes her birth between April 1815 and March 1816. She was definitely born in Scotland. She married my great great grandfather Andrew Carr, a woodman, probably some time before my great grandmother Ellen Carr was born in April-June 1844 - I assume the marriage was in Scotland, since I can't find it in England. Andrew was born in 1790 in Berwick. Christy (or Christina) was his second wife, working as a children's nurse for his employer at Hedgeley Hall in Northumberland. I assume she came from the Borders, but I've no clue where the marriage took place so I've no hope of tracing her. Any information gratefully received. Sincerely yours Stan Driver |

I will take a look - but not all the scottish records have been transcribed and so there are people who do not appear (my great great great grandfather for one!) I'll let you know if I find anything. Regards, -Kat |

Stan: 28 May 1815 - GRIEVE, CHRISTIAN. Parents: JOHN GRIEVE/JANET WADDEL Piece no. FR1884 sex: Female Parish: PRESTONPANS GROS ref: 718/00 0006 This is the ONLY C Grieve listed for between the dates you gave and although the name is male nowadays the person is listed as female. Due to many spelling variations I wouldn't just discount ANYTHING if I were you! CHRISTY-ANN does sound like christiAN! There are also several CHRISTIANs listed on census and they are all female so in Scotland at that time it was a commonly used girls name. I will look for the marriage now and if there is anything you could think of to highlight the birth then let me know. -Kat |

Stan: Still nothing really. The Christian Grieve appears on the Old Parish Register for marriages but not to an Andrew Carr. (though she must be female as she marries a thomas...) Hi Kat, If you have any credits left, I would appreciate a look up for James Donaldson born Lanarkshire between 1889 - 1894. Thank you so much for the very kind offer. Regards Margaret |

Shelagh: 1910 HUNTER JAMES married BUTLER ISABELLA in STIRLING GROS ref 490/00 0057. This seems a possible match and was the only entry found. It might be worth paying the £6 for 30 credits so you can view the document and look at other possible entries which I have not found. It costs 5creditd to view the document itself and 1credit per page of matches. Hope this helped. Take care, -Kat (ps - PLEASE no more emails everyone. I don't have any credits left now!) :-) |

Hi Katrina Thanks for going to so much trouble. I have just noticed that the 1851 census gave her age as 37. In it her name is transcribed as Catherine, but my mother always knew her great grandmother was called Christy. Thanks for the warning about such names though. Maybe I'll find the marriage among the Northumberland border strays. Best wishes Stan Driver |
