I had that problem, If you obtained the certificates from the GRO or other register office give them a ring they have a department which specialises in deciphering them. You either send back original or a very good scanned copy. Sandra |

I am stuck on one line of research, the death certificate I found for John Rhind (Rhynd) was barely legible. Then after some fiddling around, I finally found his marriage certificate, listed under John Rhyne, presumably because writing on that is also so hard to read. Unfortunately these are the only 2 out of many, many that I have accessed, and sadly both for the same person. I think he was originally given his mother's name, she is the only parent listed on his death cert, but I can't read what her name is, and death cert appears to say formerly known as ..., but I can't read it. He was born in 1846/47 in Macduff, Banffshire. I can't find any birth certificate under Rhynd, Rhind, Rhyne, or Allen, Allan which it seems to read. As his first child was named Helen Allan Rhynd, then that would make sense. Maybe he just wasn't registered because he was illegitimate, is that possible? Janice. Any suggestions of other certificates I could access, or any way I could see these more clearly. |
