I've got the following names in my tree, I really think their parents must have been drunk at the time of registration: Wilkinson Smith, Dickinson Oldfield, Aptavious Davidson, Marmaduke Kay. Those poor people George

Stilll wiping the tears from my eyes. Where are you lot from? Many thanks for the laugh. The only funny name in my lot is Job - poor B. My mother (who is 81) reminded me of a horse that my Uncle put some cash on - Hoof Hearted. I wonder if he went with the wind!!! Nes

My GGGGGG grandmother married a Thomas Cockbone. Thank goodness she had already given birth to my ancestor. On another line I have the Heron family from County Durham. One family group were all recorded as Herring. Am I fish or fowl? Jim

The funniest collection of TRUE names I knew (and I hope no-one from the family reads this) is the PITT family. He was Sidney, she was Florence, and their daughter was Beryl (yes, really, truly, honestly). So as a family they were Spitt, Floppit and Burial Pitt. Jan

During a mid stint I nursed a lady whose surname was ROWES. She had a hefty 12lb baby that was red-faced and squalled herself to a deep puce colour on a VERY regular basis. Baby's hair was the brightest orange I have every seen anywhere! The childs name? Lillie Camelia Violet ............... Sonja

Debra's comment about a Broom marrying a Broom prompts the obvious question, did they have a little Brush? Or, as one broom said to the other, "If we hadn't swept together we would never......." Oh, never mind! Peter

And I've just remembered another gem from Brian Johnston (he was full of them) "That's the end of play here for the day but now we'll cross back to Hove for some more balls from Rex Alston" He said afterwards that Mrs Alston didn't speak to him again for over a year! Peter

Brian Johnston once welcomed listeners back to the cricket as follows. "Welcome back to Headingly where Ray Illingworth has just relieved himself at the Pavilion end"

had aright laugh tonight reading these names, somes people marry into a name and it can't be helped, but then you get daft parents who don't think, my friend named their son Drew a lovely name except their surnames Peacock!

Thank you all. I was feeling a little bit down until I read the postings. My wife has just come down the stairs threatening to have me certified. It reminded me that a long time ago I knew a young lady named Wealls. No prizes for guessing the first name she was given!!!!!! (We family researchers are definitely touched) Paul
