I think "2 back" means either room 2 at the back, or second floor back, something like that. Check the census again to see if it shows how many rooms your people occupied in the house - I think its the colum immediately to the left of the names. Then see how many other families were in the same house, and how many rooms they had. I found a family of 6 living in two rooms, with another family of 4 in 1 room in the same premises. Probably had to share a cold water tap in the yard with several other families, and a privy between them all if they were lucky. Jan. |

Hello, I think we have all found similar addresses whilst cruising through the census pages - either no number on the house, or one property with several different families living in it. I can only assume that properties were split into sections - one family living in what was effectively the front of a house, and another living in the back of the house - bit like bedsits really. I do not know how you would go about finding which section of a property was occupied by your family - just be lucky that you did find them. Good hunting. Jacqui |

whilst searching census records i had a problem as the address read 2 back 13 Mansfield road, Aston Manor. I searched on mansfield road but was unable to find the house. serveral of my possible properties are simialrly addressed. Do u know what this means and how to find the address ?? |
