Aha! Indexed backwards and found this message. For all those who are still looking, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. My Dad had a heart attack and we've all been upended, so to speak. He's in the hospital in Barrie, and as luck would have it the library there has the Ontario census records on microfilm. I'm only allowed to visit for 15 mins at a time, so I go to the library in between visits. I've tried to contact as many of you as I can personally. For all those still looking I can still search Ontario for you, all I need is a name, date and city. If you can give me an address that would narrow it down considerably as well. Thank you to all for being so patient with me! Amanda

Hallo Everyone! Thomas- If you're downtown and can get to the TRL that would be fabulous! I'm sure everyone would appreciate any info you could pull up. I'm still waiting for the microfilm here. Canada seems to be behind everyone else when it comes to referencing census material. I had it here a while back, but the library had to send it back after a spell. Thought they were going to keep it longer! If all else fails and I don't hear from them on Tuesday, I'll be going to Barrie where they have permanent copies as well. I agree with Thomas, there should be a website dedicated to researching immigration in Canada. Sounds like a project worthy of at least a grant or two, doesn't it! By the way Tom, that's amazing that you can go back so far! I'm still mired in the 1800's myself. Can't seem to get past great grandparents!!! Hope to have more info for all soon!!! Amanda

Hi again, Amanda. Sorry, James was listed as Joseph in 1871(?). He used James in 1881. Thanks, Lisa.

Hi Amanda. If you are still able, I would appreciate a look-up for James Mumford, born in 1826 in Hatfield, England. Lived in Toronto, Ontario from 1858 through 1912; occupation: butcher. He is listed as Joseph Mumford on the 1881 census. First wife passed away in 1869, second in 1888. Question: How do you search when you don't have addresses? I live in California but my family is from Ontario -- I would love to see the census myself. Perhaps I could order them as well, if I don't need ancestor's addresses. An ancestor lived in Jersey City, New Jersey before settling in Toronto, Ontario. Also heard that it was less expensive to sail to Canada, than the U.S., so a lot of people landed there, and stayed there. Believe that some ships landed in Quebec--don't know how true that is. Thanks so much for your kind offer! Lisa.

Hi again everyone, sorry this is taking so long. The 1891, 1901, 1911 and 1921 I had to order from the library on microfilm, so I'm going to have to wait a couple of days. I can only order four at a time, needed them anyways to look up my in laws. I'll post info as soon as they come in!

Hi Everybody! The Canadian Census data I can get to is for 1881, possibly 1891, and 1901 for sure. I can't exactly remember which years they are offhand, too early in the morning for me here. Son is asking for pancakes "with happy faces on them". I'll start with the names I've got so far and get back to you as soon as I can. Looks like after I make the pancakes I can get started! Talk to you all soon!

Thanks very much for this offer. My relatives emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in the 1880s. (Wish I could find out exactly when!). I should be very grateful if you could see if you could find any Penstons in 1891/1901. Particularly William Penston(e) b.about 1829 and family. Many thanks.

Can do Canadian Census Lookup for anyone that's interested. Ontario is the easiest for me, but can do other provinces. Also looking into being able to find where rellies landed before they settled in Canada.
