My great aunt Ellen Proctor married a Shirley Herbert Harper in 1890 (Worcester) He is described as railway clerk born in Brentford Middlesex 1865. Now the only Shirley Harper I can find in 1901 is the right age also a railway clerk but described as a naturalised french subject! Any ideas how I can find if this is the same person. Thanks Helena |

If it is the right one I notice the mother was born in Hazler, Shropshire and the rest of the children are all down as being born in England Janet |

Thank you all for the information. It has been a great help. I think I can safely assume that the Nellie and Shirley on the 1901 in Slough are the right ones. However it is puzzling that he is described as french. I have checked the 1837 and found his birth details in England the same as the 1881, 1891 and his marriage record. Born in Middlesex. Do you think it has been wrongly transcribed or maybe he stretched the truth for some reason? Thank you all again. Helena |
