I have tried the online one, but that is incomplete. I am looking for Charles Frederick Ball occupation fisherman. Could be married to Annie Ball nee George They should be in the Hull area If Charles was at sea, then Annie could be head. I cant find him on the 1881, or the 1901 either. I dont have his date of birth, but his son was born Nov. 1901 Thanks |

Hi Carol, I looked up the name Charles Ball for Yorkshire in 1891. There were only 29 entries - two aged 31 and 4 in Hull were not the right ones. How about the following - the only one called Charles F, and with a father Frederick as well the name at least would be right, and the age not unreasonable for having a son in 1901? 17 Ruffford Terrace, Ecclesfield Burlow (?), Sheffield: Frederick Ball, Head, 34, Spring Knife Cutler: Annie Ball, Wife, 34; Annie E Ball, daur, 12, Scholar; Charles F Ball, son, 9, Scholar; Louisa Ball, daur, 7, Scholar; Ethel Ball, daur, 3 months. All born Yorkshire, Sheffield. From my own knowledge of South Yorkshire, I would say it was not impossible for the son of a Sheffield cutler to become a Hull fisherman. I hope this may be at least a possibility. Stan Driver |

Thanks Stan, looks like a possibility. I do know grandfather had an elder brother Charlie, will have to check with mum about the others. Thank you for taking the trouble. I am registered with ancestry, but I must have missed that one. |
