What I can tell you is that Potterne church was the main 1 for the area. I did some research for someone there and her rellies were 2 miles away. Does that help? Probably confuses? John |

Hi Elizabeth I live in Wilts and whilst I don't know either village very well, I have driven through them several times and I don't see why a baptism couldn't have taken place in the other village (based on my own research in Devon where 5 villages shared a vicar). I did a Google search for both Potterne and Market Lavington and visited their village websites. It would be worth putting a message on either one of them. There is a message from the vicar of Potterne - why not email/write to him? Good luck! Sue |

My ancestor George Newman is on 1881 census as being born 1830 in Potterne, Wiltshire. The IGI has a christening record for a George Newman in 1830 in Market Lavington, Wiltshire. I have looked the 2 places up and they are only 4 miles apart. Does anybody know if it is likely that a baby born in Potterne would be christened in Market Lavington? Thanks, Liz |
