Can any help me track down info on Alfred Glanville BISHOP. reputedly a Borstall boy, Bermondsey area. He is supposed to have been allowed to leave Borstall if he joined the Navy (Royal I assume) he then transfered to the RFC and hence to RAF and died in Portsmouth (whilst a Lt ( navigator) in 239 Sqn) in Sept 1918 ( War graves) Its his criminal record and Borstal records that I would love to find. I would guess the dates to be around 1914 but could be earlier. He was born in 1897 Bermondsey. Any suggestions/help gratefully received Sheila

Just a bit of info. Borstal is a place in Kent (near chatham) and It was in the 40's (maybe earlier) where Young offenders were sent. If you cant find your Bishop in Bermondsy, it may be worth a look at Borstal. There is a still a Young offenders unit there, don't know if it's on the same site it use to be, but I would think they would be able to help. Lynda

Hi Sheila, The public record office has borstal records but I am not sure how long they are sealed for. If you type in ancestorsmagazine issue # 14 click on the site and scroll down a Chris Heather has written about borstal boys. Gen
