Hello Everyone; I joined Genes Connected last week and have been very excited by what I have seen on this site. This seems to be a very active board so thought I would pose a question that has me stumped. I am looking for Eliza Boakes, born in Gillingham Kent. Her husband Thomas Boakes is on the 1881 census listed as married with their children but Eliza is nowhere to be found. She is on the 1901 census with Thomas. Her age is 64 so was definately around in 1881. Does anyone have any idea how I could locate her? I have the 1881 on disc but no luck so far. Any help would be appreciated. Teresa |

If you find her, please tell me where, because I'm in the same position. I've found my gt grandfather and children in 1881, he's shown as Married, but no sign of gt grandmother anywhere. Its been driving me crazy for weeks. Jan |

I also have a missing wife in 1881 and 1891. The husband is widowed in 1901 and as it is Jones and the family aren't at the same address in 1871 I haven't found any of them then. I also had a missing husband in 1861 who turned up at his parents while his wife was with her dad. Her dad's wife was also missing but turned up in 1871 living with the daughter who was with her father 10 years before so she must have been somewhere in 1861. Hope that makes sense, I was confusing myself as I typed it!!! Mel |

Hi Ruth; Thanks for your help. I think this is definately them on the 1891 census. Ruth is my gggrandmother. The child Eliza is one I hadn't heard of before though. The mother Eliza must have been one exhausted woman as I have so far located 14 children! She would have been well into her fourties when she had Eliza. The question still remains; Where was Eliza Boakes in 1881? |

Teresa/Jan My first suggestion to you is too look at the actual fiche as enumerated not transcribed. Secondly, did she have any married children at this stage ? Look for her with them - her name may be wrongly enumerated/transcribed. I have a gt gt grandmother still missing in 1881. He name was Jemima COATES. On the 1891 she was enumerated and transcribed as James COATES, and the male/female column was male. She was with one of her married daugthers and listed as visitor - not even mother-in-law, yet I know it is her. On the 1901 she was transcribed as Jemima COLLES |
