I Know it can take years to do your family tree, but no matter how I try I can not get past any of my G.Grandparents I just keep hitting brick walls. I do not have a great knowledge on this subject but I do try my best, I've looked up on all the link sites 1881,1891,1901 census, Ancestry.com all the links on this site, I've even traval up to Penrith and Carlisle walked round graveyards gone to liberies and sent of for Death,Birth,Marriage cert', but everytime nothing!! My parents don't really know much about there past, as my Father was born out of wedlock so was his Grandmother and G.Grandmother so he thinks, and my own mother said she doesn't know much because questions were never asked. I know alot of u feel the same, but all I have is a great desire to know where I came from. Thank you Sharron Knight

Do you know what date your grandmother and great grandmother were born and where? If some of us had those and any names and locations perhaps our collective brains (or in my case off brain cell) might come up with some suggestions .. Ann

Why dont you post their names on here.Maybe someone can help you.Im in a similar situationI have my grandmothers birth certificate and she was also born out of wedlock and other family members were too so i dont know where to turn next.I have emailed the Cumberland archives to see if i can get some information but they havent replyed to me yet.I know my gran was born in Whitehaven Workhouse and she also had a brother but i cant find any details of him.I have had some small breakthroughs so it makes it all worthwhile. Best Wishes Anna

Hi Sharron, Don't despair, this site if full of kind and informative people, if you tell us what your looking for i'm sure someone, somewhere, will have lots of advice to offer, failing that why not try the live web chat at the end of the month with an expert. Hope this helps. Aprilxx :-)

Thank u April. My maidan name is Walker: My father Edward James was born 1938 to Hilda Walker B. 1915 to a Florence Walker B.1895? Florence had 2 children 1 being Hilda and Ada B.1914 both children were born out of wedlock, but Florence did marry a William Blaylock in 1915 who was killed in the WW1 he was a sailor, Florence then Married a Robert John Monusey Todd in 1918 and had about another 10 children to him. Florence D.1979 age 85 but on her death cert' it said she was born in Carlisle 28 July 1895 but there is no trace of a Florence Walker from Carlisle born in that year or 2 years either side. Florence died in Penrith. sharron
