I am trying to find out if my grandfather had a new family when he went to Canada, all I have to go on is his full name John Roger Robertson dob 1909 dod in canada Dec 23 1985. It is thought that he left Scotland(LEITH) because he was in some sort of trouble. That may just be an old story. His profession was a Terrazzo Polisher. The solicitor who dealt with his estate was from Port Credit Mississauga so I am guessing that is where he lived. any ideas how I can move on. |

Hi Debra! I can search that info for you today, I'm going to search the census records in Barrie. Should have some info on that by early morning your time tomorrow. Can't promise anything, some of the census records are missing, but hopefully we'll strike it lucky! Amanda |

Hi,Amanda, What years are the canadian census' available for? Have been looking for my gt uncle who emigrated there in the 1950's/60's,but assumed you couldn't access the census for 100 years,as in England. |

Hi Diane, I can access only Ontario at this point, up to 1981 I think. My Dad's in the hospital in Barrie, so I have some time I can go to the Barrie library and check for you. Can you give me some details? I can only access Ontario records today I'm afraid. I would need a city and time frame if you could get them for me. |

Hi,Amanda, That is very kind of you. Thomas Edward Cowdrey was born in 1910,London,England. He emigrated to Toronto,Ontario in the 1950's/60's,[so 1971 maybe a good census to look at] with his wife [Queenie?] and 2 children,a boy and a girl.Think the boy may have been adopted by Thomas. It would be great if you could find out what happened to him,as his younger brother whose still alive, wonders why he broke contact with the rest of the family. Many thanks Diane |

Hi Diane! I'll see if I can find any info for you, I have other people I'm searching for, so I can't promise anything tonight. I will get to it asap though, looks like Dad will be in there for a while so I'll be making lots of trips to Barrie. The census records there are incomplete, some years and areas are missing, but I'll do my best! Talk to you both soon! Amanda |
