Hello all, I have a query regarding ship's manifests on Ellis Island site. If a name is crossed through on the manifest, does this mean that the passenger in question died on route or did he miss the boat and not sail at all? Unfortunately I have no clue on this one and would be most grateful for any advice or ideas on how I can check this out. Many thanks,Sinead. |

Hi Sinead I think that you would probably need to contact the people at Ellis Island website to check that one out. Regards Maxine |

If a name is crossed through on the Ellis Island manifest, it usually means that the person either did not sail or was not allowed to disembark at point of entry. |

Thanks to both for replying, some serious rethinking to do-why didn't he sail or if not allowed to disembark, where did he go.My own life is complicated enough without dead rellies mucking it up further!!!!!! |

Hi Sinead Just to let you know "Your Family Tree" magazine has a good article all about Ellis Island in this months copy, I have not read it all through yet, but there maybe something there to help you. Amanda |
