Reading my ancestors names on the census over 100 years ago has made me wonder what the world looked like then, and how they lived (sadly I don't have any old family photos to help). I know there are some great books around, but does anyone know of any web-sites which depict life in the 19th century? |

www(.)victorianlondon(.)org is a good site - a lot of the issues covered on there are relevant to the whole country. |

Hi Suzanne When i wanted to find out where my father was born,as the area isn't there now,I mailed a reporter of our local paper who writes about the past and he mailed me a lot of info, mind it was quite shocking. It was known as the Black hole of Darlington but very interesting I think and hope by the time my father was born it had improved a lot!!! Ann,Darlington |

Just had a look at the map of where I am sitting in Fitzroy Square and our corner is the only bit not built, whereas I thought it had all been built at the same time - fascinating. |

I am going along to the Eccleshall(Staffs) local history society lecture on early Eccleshall, in an attempt to find out! I hope it's going to be interesting, as I have never been to anything like that before. (My husband just rolled his eyes when I told him - I guess that meant he didn't want to come with me!) Maxine |
