If my grandparents were still alive, their ages would be between 117-138. If my 8, greatgrandparents were alive, their ages would be between 146-172 and I'm just 34! So on the whole, with my research, althought I have got as far back as the mid 1700's in some cases, it's only a few generations. Alot of 'big age gaps' between first and last born has made it like this. One grandfather was born in 1865 with me over 100 years later in in 1969. Sian |

If my paternal grandfather was still alive he'd be 89. If my paternal nan was alive she'd be 86. My paternal great grandparents would be 117 & 115, and 112 & 112. On my maternal side, my grandad would be 87. My great grandparents would be 118 & 115 and 119 & 115. George |

For me it meant that I never met my grandparents, the same for my both parents and theirs.. and this seems to be the trend. Although they all seemed to live to a good age for the time. Most of my main line are 'last borns' (including me) with often some 20 years gap between themselves and their oldest sibling. Sian |

The only grandparent I never met was my dads dad who died many years before I was born. George |

A friend has asked me to trace his family tree. Though he is only 3 years older than me, his father was born 1 year before my grandfather. On his direct paternal line, I easily got back to 1834, because they all stayed in the same place. |

On my dad's side, my grandfather would be 117 and my grandmother would be 113 - my grandmother died less than a year after I was born. My great-grandparents would be 161 & 150 and 141 & 137. On my mum's side, my grandfather would be 93 and my grandmother would be 92. My great-grandparents would be 122 & 121 and 127 & 126. My strict paternal line descends from the junior end of each generation, i.e. each father was into their 40s when their son was born. I'm 28 and my great great grandfather was 174 years older than me! |

My grandparents would be 113 & 95 on my father's side. On my mothers side, my grandfather would be 106. My grandmother unfortunately died yesterday aged 99 years 4 months and 16 days. Last year my grand daughter was born, and my mother, myself, my daughter and grand daughter all trooped along for a family photo with the 5 generations. I have one particularly touching photo with Granny holding her four month old GG grand daughter, both looking totally confused. |

Maggy Sorry to hear about your Grandma. The photo of the 5 generations will be a lovely keepsake for you all, but especially for your Granddaughter. I have a photo taken when I was 11 months old with my G Grandmother, Grandmother and Mother and I treasure it. Both my G Grandma and my Grandma lived to be G Grandparents, but sadly my Mum did not. She died the day my son and his wife found out they were to be parents. I like to think she is watching my 4 beautiful grandchildren as they grow up, but I find it so sad that Mum died at age 72 without having met them. My G Grandma would be 140, my Grandma 103 amd Mum 79. G Grandad, 139, Grandad 103 and Dad 83. On Dad's side - G Grandma 130, G Grandad 131, Grandma and Grandad both 106. Sue |

My paternal grandpa would be 144 years old, and grandma 127. They had 7 children between 1893 and 1912, so there was a wide span between eldest and youngest, and an even wider span between oldest and youngest cousins, especially as my youngest aunt didn't have her daughter until she was 40. As a result my oldest cousin is or would have been about 88 and the youngest is 52, quite a span!! I'm somewhere in the middle. Di. |

Sorry to hear about your grandmother Maggie. It's interesting to see other people's info who also have big gaps in ages between siblings. Based on all the info in my tree of 348 individuals, the average lifespan is 53 years and 8 months. This doesn't sound alot but it does include all those children dying young. T.B wiped out alot of my family from Aberdare, Glamorgan over the years. Sian |
