Although I don't have any Lancashire ancestors (yet), this site is useful for those of you who do: http://www(.)lancslist(.)com/ Also anyone with any connections with Leeds may want to check out the following site (not sure how useful it is): http://www(.)leodis(.)org/ |

I use all the usual one's, but a couple of my fav's are: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/~terryw/ Invaluable for any one 'doing' Devon, particularly Plymouth and immediate surrounding area. And good old Barbara Dixon, I plug this one every chance I get. Answers ALL your questions on BMD Certs, and will answer any e-mails, if you can't find the answer on her page: http://home.clara.net/dixons/ Debbie |

The following website is good for Cemetries in Lancashire. They will give reports which give all the details off gravestones for ALL people in the grave, even if there are different surnames. www(.)cemsearch(.)co(.)uk Reports are 6.00 each. They will send you the Report via Email in anticipation of your cheque so there is no waiting around either. I am just updating this message to add that I sent an Email for two Reports at 12.30pm today - and I have just received them - less than 3 hours later!! I recommend this site as it is extremely easy to do and even quicker!!!! |

Firstly, I also recommend using the website that Lynda mentioned, the RMHH (Hall family) website as it's a site that I return to, time and again to look up occupations and it's also packed with lots of other useful information and links. Here are others on my Favourites list (remove the brackets, of course): CD sites: http://www(.)archivecdbooks(.)org/ http://www(.)stepping-stones(.)co(.)uk/ http://www(.)genealogysupplies(.)com/ CEMETERIES/CHURCHES: http://www(.)framland(.)pwp(.)blueyonder(.)co(.)uk/ http://www(.)findachurch(.)co(.)uk/ CENSUS: http://www(.)censusfinder(.)com/ ELECTORAL ROLL: http://www(.)locatefirst(.)com/uk/ OLD NEWSPAPERS: http://www(.)bl(.)uk/catalogues/newspapers(.)html GENERAL/MISCELLANEOUS: http://www(.)gendocs(.)demon(.)co(.)uk/ http://www(.)genuki(.)org(.)uk/ http://www(.)dmm(.)org(.)uk/ (Durham mining museum) http://www(.)lightage(.)demon(.)co(.)uk/ (Black Sheep & Police Index) MAPS: http://www(.)streetmap(.)co(.)uk/ http://www(.)old-maps(.)co(.)uk/ http://www(.)yourmapsonline(.)org(.)uk/ PARISH RECORDS (Yorkshire): http://www(.)yorkshireparishregisters(.)com/ |

As we have all become so conscious of space on the message boards since the format changed, one thing that I wondered was whether it would be worth keeping one message heading such as "Good Websites" on the tips board for everyone to use when they come across a newly discovered site that might be of interest. Rather than each of us starting a new thread when we find one we could just add it to the "Good Websites" list (possibly with a brief description of what it provides) and it could become a permanent bank of info for new and old alike! If no new sites were entered for a while it could always be nudged to keep it current and if it is at the top of the list you'll know it's worth looking to see if a new site has been found! Just an idea! What do you think?! Eleanor xx |
